Autumn's Pass

I can feel the chill of winter in the air,
The grey sky taming the rays of the sun.
It seems to be impenetrable,
The despairity that clings to the cold.
Stilletos of hopelessness,
Piercing the mind and heart.
Such sad manifestations,
Appear out of the grey mist.
Drizzling rain,
Douses the vigor that once burned bright.
Apparitions of things long since past,
Find their way into the chilling night.
Faces for whom we have no names,
Beings that have long since passed.
As black as the night sky,
Draped in heavy overcast.
Emotions surface,
That steal the vitality of human life.
Blankets of snow,
Cloak the soul in their silent grief.
The freezing rain,
Locks away the spirit that once flew free.
It is the desperation of the cold,
That brings me to my knees.
Such peace,
Such beauty,
In the inevitability of death.
So I pray my mercy,
Into the hands of those who care.
And pass from this winter,
Silently, in death’s cold stare.
