He sometimes comes to visit me...

Patty cakes, eggs, flour, sugar, milk
And a lot of love at my fingertips.
Cocoa, vanilla, what else can I add
With all of this love at my fingertips?
The hours make haste
But it’s cake that I crave
To mix and fold and watch its rise
While I conjure wild thoughts
Of a beautiful life.….
The butter and sugar I cream
The eggs I break
As I glance to the TV
I left on for company.
And there he stands, alone at her grave
Wishing she was still with him
Holding her in his embrace.
And here I now stand, alone in the knowing
That you are no longer here my love
That I will never touch your warmth again.

And then you appear
You are my magical light
You hold me from behind
With an unmistakable love.
My tears
You know they always fall for you
Hang heavy from my eyes.
As they slither
Over cheeks and across my lips
Just as the rain caressed rocks
At the waterfall today.

I tell you I love you
I tell you I feel you
As I stand here alone
In my kitchen weeping.
Just to hold you
To hear your voice float through my head
And I realise how foolish I must look
To be standing here
Asking the air for this wish
Asking your light for one last kiss.

So I stir and I stir
And I stir and I weep
And I take a step
In the direction you seem to keep.
But I stay and I stir
And I stir and I weep
For I dare not chance
Breaking this spell, so sweet.
But you seem to be smiling In amusement at me
So I find myself laughing amongst my tears
And I go to you
With my heart opened wide.
You rise from the chair
And place your hand in my outstretched palm. . .
