Common Gorse (Ulex europaeus), grows in sunny sites, usually on dry, sandy soils. This one was found on the lower slopes of Hountor, Dartmoor in Devon. It is the largest species of Gorse, reaching 2–3 metres (7–10 ft) in height. It is also known as furze and whin and is related to the brooms except that it is extremely thorny. The yellow flowers have a very long flowering season. This plant can become invasive but is controlled on heathland by burning which helps it to regenerate.

Camera used: Nikon Coolpix E3200 (automatic mode, as is photo)

Ulex europaeus is a species of flowering plant in the family Fabaceae, native to portions of Europe from the northern United Kingdom south to Portugal (Wikipedia)
