Artist's Description

A crop of dandelions (Taraxacum) waiting for the wind to carry them off to the rest of my garden. This picture was taken in Devon, England. Dandelions are prolific weeds and spread very widely throughout the region.
The dandelion flower heads mature into spherical seed heads called “blowballs” or “clocks” Here, we always called them clocks and as children would blow them to find the time of day. They contain many single-seeded fruits called achenes. Each achene is attached to a pappus of fine hairs, which enable wind-aided dispersal over long distances. (Flower details from Wikipedia)

Camera used: Pentax K30
