Mont Saint-Michel photographed from the causeway. Normandy, France.

Camera used: Vivitar Vivicam 3945S

Mont Saint-Michel is an island in Normandy, France consisting of a monastery and surrounded by tightly packed dwellings for those connected to the monastery. It is situated approximately one kilometre off the northwestern coast of France and is joined to the mainland by a causeway at low water. The first monastic settlement here was established in the 8th century.
In Cornwall in the UK there is another similar island also joined by a causeway at low water. This is also called St. Michael’s Mount and was built in 1067 after the French monastery gave it’s support to William of Normandy when he claimed the English throne. St. Michael’s Mount, off Penzance, was his reward to the French monastic people. (Wikipedia)
