Artist's Description

This is the quaint little village of Stokenham in South Devon, England. I visited there in the summer of 2018 and was blown away by these old thatched cottages, all now attached, with one part being for the Tradesman’s Arms, a “Real Free House.” It is a turn of the 14th Century thatched pub and restaurant with accommodation in this picturesque village. One of my neighbours back at home just south of the city of Vancouver, BC, Canada, has ancestors who emigrated to Canada centuries ago. Photo taken in August 2018 just before I returned from almost 6 weeks in England and Wales.

Wikipedia tell of Stokenham being known in Saxon Times as Stoc or Stoc Hamme. By the 13th century the town was called Stoke in Hamme. An electoral ward has the same name. The ward population at the 2011 census was 1,895. Its church register dates from 1578.

Camera used was my Canon SX720HS.
