Artist's Description

My intention was to do an abstract and this is what I got. It reminded me of a documentary that came on the news magazine show, 20/20. It was about 15 years ago when they reported how the Native Americans were dying because of disease. They showed how there is a foundation and a medical center specifically for the Native Americans because of the inordinate high volume of patients with high cholesterol, diabetes, and heart disease. The doctors couldn’t understand, as was depicted why the patients were not responding to any of the medicine that was normally given. The doctors also noted that the skin of the patients showed latent acne.

One of the younger zealot sort of doctor decided to go to some of the older Indians to see what could be done. They found that if the Native Americans stayed to their original diet (living off the land) all of the terminal symptoms they had would disappear. Each and every patient was released from the hospital in record time having had been residents of the facility for months.

I wondered why wasn’t that information run continually. There is a new generation that would need that knowledge for their own well being. The discovery specfically for the Native American was that the westernized (fast food) was not good for them. Actually, it isn’t good for any of us, but the documentary showed that it was really not good for them.

I wrote a college term paper on this report 15 years ago. The professor was perturbed that I dared to write such a racist paper. How could he misconstrue preservation of a people as oppose to their demise?

This piece was created on 12×12 Strathmore Drawing paper with gel pens, colored pencil, and fine tipped black ink pen.
