Artist's Description

They look so unbelievably impressive gliding on the air currents without flapping a wing in 20 minutes. That are big and dark, making them very easy targets for a beginning photographer to shoot on full automatic. And they hang around the same area for a nice long time making it much easier to predict when you’ll see one next and from what direction.

But once you get a chance to see them “up close and personal” you’ll have another reason to remember them. I don’t think they look all that much like turkeys; turkeys are beautiful compared to these uglies! LOL! But they have that distinctive colour on their heads so they get labeled with the dumbest birds of all time. Sad state of affairs, for the buzzards!

I used to think Sacramento was known only for it’s returning crows every winter. But last fall I saw the turkey buzzards descend upon a local park, breaking branches, occasionally squawking at each other but most of the time just hanging out peacefully – with their red-headed issues!!!
