Artist's Description

There are literally thousands of this mushrooms, none larger than my thumbnail. I haven’t seen them in Weedy Field before but I’m pretty sure why: they seem to have a lifespan of only a few days. Earlier ones were done a week ago. Also they are extremely fragile. I couldn’t remove the pine needles from anywhere near them without breaking them or sawing them in half!

I’m hoping I got the while balance correct with the Nikon D90 but there was very little light and almost all of it was the colour of the bright reddish needles. (I can only tell the needles are red because the trees have both living and dead ones this time of year in Weedy Field). ;-)

Shot was taken with the kit 18-55mm Nikkor lens and a small aperture hoping for depth of field where I have no macro lens. Did I manage it all? Only Carla knows for sure!
