Artist's Description

This is a rather horrible screen capture from Caligator’s “Live In Roseville” DVD. Wow, does that need qualifying. :-O

Caligator didn’t play a lot of gigs when I was in the band. But if we got paid by the hour for rehearsal time, we’d have topped the gross earnings of The Beatles and Rolling Stones combined. ;-) We honed and honed to the bone yet didn’t take it outside the garage for MONTHS.

We did make it to TV once tho. A “live” local talent music show gave us a shot at showing our stuff. We were ready. It almost worked out perfectly until one of the quirks of modern musical keyboards showed up at the worst possible time. There was an interview portion of the show when the host came out of the shadows and talked to each member of the band for a moment. I forgot I’d exchanged my Master controller keyboard. (I used to run all of my performance gear from one single keyboard but had it rigged for the “master” to be either the strapped on keytar-styled board or the regular on-a-stand board). When handing off master controller duties, the interface system quietly crashed and it locked all my boards in an uncontrollable loop.

Just after the host finished interviewing me, he announced us again and we flew into the next tune. I was grounded (“ready”). Then I was worse than grounded: one loud and terrifically wrong note comes out of the ether, into the mics, and out into the LIVE TV world. What could be worse, you might ask? Utter panic and in retracing my error, I RECREATE it, just as wrong (but a different note), possibly louder, and while the camera is locked on a view the entire band while I go thru mental gymnastics.

I’d explain why it’s not my fault and how M.I.D.I. (Musical Instrument Digital Interface) does things like that and why I didn’t die of embarrassment but I doubt you actually care. All I needed to explain was why this mess of a video shot is on Red Bubble: to be an mini avatar image. You can probably get a copy of this video by watching Roseville public TV with your DV/computer/DVD/VHS/BetaMax/camcorder running. But I sure hope not. I rather think Caligator would hope not too.

Instruments seen: Roland D-50, Alesis QS 7.1, and an eMu rack-mounted synthesizer. If you’d like to hear this band playing this music, check out my BigCatLenny site on YouTube and you’ll find an interesting selection of some damned good music.
