Artist's Description

This is Jimmy, “James” to me if he’s being silly. Sometimes he’s the most loving and friendly cat on the planet. Other times, he’s afraid of his own shadow. LOL! Cathy (business partner/friend/guide) is owned by Jimmy and she took this shot last weekend while Jimmy was being cuddly with me. He’s licking my nose, usually a precursor to a quick nibble that usually hurts as much as it surprises.

You may notice I’m back to my usual look: hairless (from the belly button up, at least. I’ll never know why hair grows on the first knuckle of all my toes. It CAN’T be for warmth; my toes rarely warm up anyway. And it’s not like I can go to the barber and have him trim it. I could ask, I suppose, but I don’t think it would be a manly man thing to do. The problem is that it sometimes gets caught in my socks and I rip out a hair accidentally. omg. How you women have things “plucked” is far beyond me. I lose one big toe hair and I’m trying not to scream obscenities and I’ve never even HEARD of women getting their toes plucked. Next time I’m down there, I’ll check and report back to you. Might take a while tho. I haven’t had anybody’s toes that close to my nose lately. Not sure I’m planning to either so no holding your breath or you’ll “assume room temperature” before I get some woman’s SHOE off…) Oh yeah. My hairlessness was where I was. I usually don’t have a mess of hair on the top of my head, cheeks, chin, forehead, neck, ears (tho it started growing OUT of them like crazy. Why, who knows?), or nose. There’s some growing over my top lip about 75% of the time but even that got nuked when I got the shaver and kept buzzing until the battery died. Maybe I’ll show you the hairless look in the same pose as the ‘old hairy me’ one – the look that can still get me carded at the grocery store if I wear the right t-shirt and refuse eye contact with a clerk that doesn’t know me. Now THAT’S a fun way to make someone pee themselves from embarrassment! Hehehe!

Anyway, Jimmy was snoring in my lap and I told Cathy she couldn’t move quietly enough to get The Shot before waking him up. She got within about 5 seconds and he popped awake, to her chagrin and my delight. :-D This is one of the shots that was as good as “the one that got away”. LOL!

On the shooter… (May 3rd, 2010)
Cathy has become a serious photographer. It took a while for her to see she could master DSLR shooting and she is lightyears past this image in her education. She’s shooting for her employer and saving a pile of bucks there. She’s the principle photographer for an upcoming book. She sees the world, not just things in it. And she has learned enough about composition (both in taking the shot and in sparingly editing them) to make me wonder if a postcard shot I saw today was mine or hers. LOL! She uses a Nikon D60 with either the kit 18-55mm Nikkor lens or an 18-200mm Nikkor zoom and she’s comfortable with both. In fact, hand her a D60 that’s not hers and I’d bet the farm she could get it ready to shoot anything in less than 30 seconds without making the software default to factory settings first. Better still, she knows how to get 100% out of a reference shot so a terrible first effort is almost always followed by something usable if not perfect.

We’ve reached the point where she’s telling me how she got something to work while I’m still trying to finesse it.

Cathy was NOT born with a camera in her hands tho she did have a father who worked both film cameras and his own dark room. My bet is that she’ll have to declare income from shooting during the 2010 tax year.

There was a large red fox in her backyard this afternoon, tho I spotted it, she grabbed her d60 a had shots before I did with both my D80 and D90 ready to shoot. Neither of us has seen those shots yet but my guess is that she will have more good-great shots than I will.

Did I mention Cathy was born less than 48 hours after I was? In personalities we couldn’t be further apart. In art we are twins holding cameras. When her time to do nothing but shoot and enjoy the fruits of her labour, expect high quality art from a “right brained” person. She broke the mold and continues to ignore any such foolishness as a "glass ceiling!!

Stay tuned!
