Looks fab, huh? Hehehehe! It is. It’s pre*fab*ricated. Yup, three+ floors of mansion put together exactly like those double-wide trailers you always hear about – the ones that tornadoes prefer. The good news is that it wasn’t built as the governor’s mansion; it was sold to the state.
Much more from the Nikon D80 coming and much more to the story of one of Sacramento’s most storied buildings. I took the $4 tour and it was more than worth it, especially from the great tales the docents told!
Fun fact ~~ The windows of this building were created in the old manner, using forms instead of the new manner, using rollers to press glass into flat surfaces. It’s possible to see flaws in a lot of the windows and some of them are new flaws. When glas is made the old way, it never becomes a complete solid! It will continue to fall into itself forever, settling with gravity until the top of the window is thinner than the bottom. This truly amazed me when I was told by the docent so now I’ll be looking at older building for flaws in the glass to find the “living” pieces. LOL!
