Artist's Description

Kids don’t float my boat. In fact, if I had a boat, they wouldn’t be on it. I like cats but cats don’t like boats all that much. That’s OK tho since I don’t have a cat, boat, or kid.

But kids have certain abilities to make the most jaded of us look at them. Even blatantly showing off to grab attention from the band while we’re performing right in front of him, this kid forced me to not only look but to grab my ever-present Nikon D80 from the top of my (recently stolen) equipment case and start shooting with my left hand.

Unfortunately, I need to either get a DSLR camera’s settings correct before I pick it up or put it on ‘full automatic’ because I can’t do much more than see what’s wrong with only one hand dedicated to photography while playing keyboards. In this case, full auto triggered the flash so I had to just live with it.

This talented kid was ‘break dancing’ on a 6" thick cover of loose rock that couldn’t support my 195 lb weight without shifting while just standing still. How he kept from screwing himself into that rocky deck is beyond me but since people (i.e. non-kids) weren’t trying to dance on it either, he had the ‘floor’ all to himself and made the most of it.

BTW, one very fortunate note: no kid-face. In my self-forced avoidance of shooting minors in an identifiable manner, the shot that worked the best just happened to have his back to the camera as he spun wildly in every which direction. And this was before I figured out the trick to making my D80 work up-to-speed so capturing this shot wasn’t easy in the least! Also, no need for signed releases. LOL!

There were some lyrics being sung at the time I shot this but I can’t remember which ones since I don’t sing anymore. So this is art inspired by music if you consider dancing art. :-D
