Artist's Description

It is shocking to me, that all of Leilani’s previous work is lost to the world. As a student at then Otis Art Institute the praise of her work by her teachers fueled her fire. They saw her genius and expressed she had more facility than the MFA students. Every journal in each facility she has been in is lost. All of her drawings and paintings prior to this are lost. This is a fresh start with her sister Miele in her life and they are eager to explore what exits between them. For #theVanGoughProject Miele is playing the role of what Theo was to Van Gough and these online sales are a means to generate resources to set this artist free. To generate a container for her life extricated from systemized governmental and corporate care that seemingly doesn’t get back story and puts profits over care. To do good work, in Van Gough’s words. "“To do good work one must eat well, be well housed, have one’s fling from time to time, smoke one’s pipe, and drink one’s coffee in peace”. In this interview Leilani discusses what it is like in a modern day asylum. It isn’t conducive at all to what it takes to manifest great art. I believe she has this! This is why we are putting her images in a forum that is a modern day way of consuming art. To get her voice out, and also, to raise funds for helping Leilani to realize her passion for painting and drawing to the fullest. https://soundcloud.com/dylanmkelly/the-van-goug...
