The Immediate - Part four

Part four:
The rain eases and then turns to shards of glass. I shield my face as I assume the foetal position on the floor. Bright lights sting my eyes almost as much as the glass cuts on one side of my body……………

I had drank lots of stale office-grade coffee that day, as I had slept-in and was late for work, even forgetting to lock the gate in my rush. As a result I had worked later into the night, meaning it was dark and raining when I left the building. Stormclouds forcing a feeling of vulnerability, I had decided to catch a cab home. A reversing truck from an alleyway forced a motorbike to swerve and skid on the wet road straight into the side of the cab in which I was a passenger, resulting in my death.

Apparently death is merely separation of the conscious, immortal soul from the body. The death of the body is a seperate death to that of the soul.

Matt 10:28 shows us that the body can die while the soul lives on. “And do not fear those who can kill the body but cannot kill the soul …”

Unconsciousness (in the context of the bible) refers to the loss of third-wordly awareness. It says the dead know nothing (9:5) and this refers to the fact that a body is dead, lacking in consciousness, not knowing anything – the fate of both the good and the wicked. The souls substance is neither conscious nor actual physical matter, but persists in a state until its own death.
