Artist's Description

I have recently seen this moth on Mount Barker Summit & this one was taken today at Sinclair’s Gully Winery at Norton Summit.

If you see it on something green it appears a metallic green & it changes colour to suit whatever it’s on…greens, blues, yellows….

The changing colours & it’s pose make me think of some kind of super hero : )

This moth has been identified as a day flying moth, commonly called a Satin-green Forester (Pollanisus viridipulverulentis).

This identification is thanks to Sue Delaney from Sinclair’s Gully Winery & Mike Gemmell from the South Australian Museum.

The moth’s larval food plant is Hibbertia stricta and H. sericia & the adults may be found in heath areas between September to November.
