Artist's Description

This is a capture of a beautiful moment – A male Superb Fairy Wren (commonly called a Blue Wren) feeding it’s young. But for me this image is all about a missed opportunity & a hard lesson learned.

I went out to shoot some birds with my new 70-300mm IS lense, which I really have not used yet and wanted to get familiar with, when this magic moment presented itself to me. I could hardly believe my luck & couldn’t wait to get home & down load it, although I did tell myself to not get too excited, as it may not be perfect, as I’m still learning how to use the lense…

….I was inconsolable when I saw how bad it was though…..completely unfocused! I couldn’t believe I’d blown such a fantastic opportunity. A big thanks to Sharon who had the very difficult task of trying to cheer me up & also a big thanks to the birdman Lance Leopold & Bill Robinson for their invaluable advice on the settings I should have used : )

I’ve put this picure up to spur myself on to get out there, keep practicing & do better, & because it may strike a cord with others who have experienced missed opportunites. I’ve had to use a filter over it to try & disguise the fact that it is completely blurry.

I’ve also put this picture up to remind myself of what a beautiful moment it was to witness : )
