Leanne Barrett is a self-taught artist who has always loved art galleries and picture books. She has been an art tour guide and a Teacher Librarian. Leanne has attended art classes in life drawing, pottery, watercolour and intuitive painting.

In 2017 Leanne decided to make her dream of being an artist and writer, a full-time commitment. She has participated in the Facebook Groups, 52-Week Illustration Challenge and the Sketchbook Revival. She has immersed herself in learning about her craft by attending conferences, workshops both face-to-face and online, joining illustrators and writers groups IRL and on SM.

Most days of the week you can find Leanne in her study/studio creating illustrations and sometimes writing. But her first love is illustrating. Most of Leanne’s illustrations are created using ink and watercolours but she would love to branch out and explore lino and gelli printing.

Leanne’s illustrations explore the natural world, rural landscape and images that can be found in children’s literature. One of her favourite things to illustrate is silhouettes of chickens doing adventure activities. When not creating, Leanne takes walks in local parkland looking for inspiration in nature or browsing the picture book section of her favourite bookshop.

Leanne sees her art as a journey to happiness and place of peace where she can reconnect to her inner child.
