Falling Into Darkness

Falling, falling… this feeling of falling is not stopping. Complete darkness, I can’t see anything in front of me. The only reassuring feeling that I have is knowing that Im not alone. I can hear the faint voice of my instructor behind me.I feel the tap on my shoulder… he wants me to arch my arms in the right spot. One tap, two taps finally the message goes to my brain and I open my arms up. I feel like a bird flying through the night sky.I hesitate at first only because the feeling that you get in free fall is amazing. It truly sends shivers up your entire body.Still no light only the darkness. Only the faint yellow colour of the my instructors altimeter. No lights on the ground, for all I know I could be falling with only a minute to spare before I hit the ground. Finally we reach the right height to open the parachute. Feeling my body be pulled back as the parachute opens. A feeling of relief, as the chute is opened and we are both safe. Still darkness, my eyes have adjusted sightly enough to make out the shapes of the hills around me. Below is the ocean and the land. Now my eyes have adjusted and I can see the lines of light from the runway below me. The guiding lights give me a feeling of reasurrance.Soaring over the land, felling like a bird my instructor gives me the controls. Im flying…
