'Keeping Faith / Leaving Normal'

Beneath ancient light
in flame adjacent,
like incense smoke,
or chanted chorus;
that wreathes my spine,
in sheets of ice;
I feel the shifting sands of time,
the bending rhythm of the night.

An early warning system,
a fated bell is struck,
to steel you against coming pain.
The shaft you can’t evade
in calculated logic flies,
towards the weakest link;
rupturing through plates of mail,
tearing through your heart.

I contemplated theories,
serenely miles away;
on regaining composure,
on steadying the sway.

They bought you back here to the keep,
your soul had come apart.
I pray now for your swift salvation,
peace and a fresh chance;
to rise above these rampant tides,
to keep your faith aloft.
Restore your belief in that word;
in the greatest of bonds.
