'Saltwater'

The saltwater drips from my hair,
the tide sways at my chest.
The evening light washes away;

The molten fire,
in fraying nerves.
The screaming in my head.

My soul is still,
there’s not a sound.
Your image fades away.

I’m free once more,
from my desire,
inevitably doomed.

I sing to you,
under the stars.
But you will never know.

I take up arms,
I smile again.
I march away once more.
