'Jupiter Rising'

He knelt with a glass of wine in his left,
a cigarette, in his right.
Before the star he knew as ‘eventide’;
he swore (again) ‘to uphold the light,
to fight for the heavens,
to serve the commons.’

His past behind him,
ancestors grinning to his right.
Permeated by eternity.

Uncertainty plagues all mortals,
but differentiation,
had always been his key.
Keenly aware of the darkness
that lay not only within him,
but that cloaked him so surely,
and aware of the bitter cold nagging
at his fingertips;
he resolved to find harmony,
not difference, in duality.

Somewhere to the North,
she frowned; unable to escape the truth.

They smiled in synchronicity, unaware.
As the page turned once more.

His star was setting in the west,
the way he remembered it from before.
