'On The Way'

Laughter roared as if from hearth,
warmth became our souls as
a shy glimpse caught of cavalry,
rode past in a coupling.
Lances carried, draped in white;
The banner of their comp’ny.

The rain in bands swept ’cross the face
of this the present-tense so,
mercurial though steeped in grace
it brightens up our lives as,
the day leans toward obscurity,
then comes to favour night.

Sat beneath the veil drawn across the ancient sky,
in an exotic garden lit by sparing candle light.
A troubadour conducts his trade
and makes off with our hearts while,
I sift through serene shifting moments in kaleidoscope as,
the seconds eek away at life and I make my way homeward.
