zzzzzzooming in – a carpenter bee on phlox blooms in the garden
- carpenter bees can unfortunately tunnel into your outdoor woodwork e.g. decks, railings etc. they burrow an almost perfectly round hole to make their nests for their broods, and also to store pollen/nectar on which the brood subsists. While they tunnel, they do not eat the wood – shavings can be found, say on a deck, where it is in the process of burrowing into a wooden railing
