RED HIGH HEELS

The sweet street sweeper
Disturbs the silent pigeons
and sin will raise her head
from the gutter memories of last night

The sun is shining
Children are playing in the street
she calls her home
but in light there’s truth so she must be discrete

As she passes
such judgemental eyes
All their guilty stains
are coverd by fancy suits and ties

Her room is empty
Shadows are weeping in their sleep
and the stench of regret
is rising right through the morning heat

There is no shower
So hot, can clean what’s in her mind
She’ll hold the soap and
razor and she’ll once again decide

If only someday love would call her name
If only someday those icy winds would change
If only someday
somehow
sometime
someway
If only someday.

The street lights glow
glares bright against her window
whilst all the shadows
are wearing smiles against the night

There’s red high heels
caught between the cracks of life
but we can’t wear her shoes
cause they’ve got a hold of her so tight

If only someday
