there sits a light

there sits a light
in the window
shown as a sign
beaming for miles
showing one’s fidelity

a beacon of love
lit by a spark
one that started
years before this very moment

so tonight I walk
venture ever closer
to where my love lay
hoping to see that light’s gleem
for in this dark of night, it is my only venture

should I find it out
I will know
she was compromised

I move on from the mount
looking on upon that land
in the distance to find
her light shining

bright as the moon
it’s resonance leading me home
to my love
so together we may finally be

there sits a light

Artist's Description

I sit here thinking about history and if you like history you will like this. The let your light shine in the darkness has to do with this….. When one was to wed around in the time of Jesus and before, before they wed, the man would go off and build a home and prepare everything for the marriage. The woman would keep a candle lit in her window to show that she was remaining faithful to her to be husband…… There is a lot of significance with this tradition….

As Christians, one is told to let their light shine in the darkness. I think at least in part this is really as a sign that the person is remaining faithful to God, who they love until the time He comes back or they go off to meet with him at the end of their lifetime.

I wrote this thinking about the walk back for the man who had just built that home and was walking back to see his to be wife and just how anxious he must’ve felt to see that light shining – showing him the way back home.
