The Grand Canal in Venice, Italy, shot southwards from the Rialto Bridge. My version of this famous view is a bit more romantic then images I have seen. As dusk arrived the tourist made their way to the restaurants at the right. The Italians liked to eat a bit later. My Venice Evening (1) has been a best seller for me. Shot with a Mamiya 645 with out a tripod I might add (F5.6 1/15 sec) I used the bridge railing and my wallet to steady the shot .
Stopping over on my way home from my year tour in Kuwait I only had 6 hours in Venice and this was one of my last shots. More Info – The banks of the Grand Canal are lined with more than 170 buildings, most of which date to 13th to the 18th century and demonstrate the welfare and art created by the Republic of Venice. The noble venetian families faced huge expenses to show off their richness in suitable palazzos: this contest reveals the citizens’ pride and the deep bond with the lagoon.
