Artist's Description

Taken in the Yorkshire Dales. A ponderous landscape so different to anything I had seen – it left a lasting impression.

The valley – or ‘nick’ as it is known to the Yorkshiremen – has amazing natural perspective. It is deceptively steep, yet is criss-crossed with drystone walls, possibly built hundreds of years ago by the inhabitants of the area.
Check out the drystone wall in this photo – constructed down the steep valley side. Amazing!

The view goes on almost without end, and stunning rock formations are frequently seen along the craggy edges of the valley. I intend to post one such rocky outcrop, named ‘Cobblers Chair’ soon. It will be worth a look!

Technical: Taken in 1989 on Kodachrome 400 reversal film with a Ricoh XRP camera using a Rikenon 70-210 lens.
