Worlds largest turnip festival, Richterswil (ZH)

Since 1905, the Raebechilbi has been a major autumn event in the lakeside town of Richterswil. In 2000, the Guinness Book of Records immortalized its 1998 parade featuring 24 tons of white turnips and 40,000 candles.

Not only do paraders carry hollowed-out white turnips with lit candles inside: all the buildings along the parade route are decorated with candle-filled turnips with decorative carved patterns.

2007 figures released by the organizers state that there were 27 tons of turnips and 50,000 candles in use that year. The parade was 1000 meters (over 3000 feet) long, and comprised some 1,200 people.
