Natchez Plantation Haunting - Pictures Included of Home

The Following Story Is True, not all of it is A First Hand Account…This Is One Story Of Many That Happen In a Friends House In Natchez Mississippi

I have a really good friend who is a physician in Natchez, MS. He lives alone in an absolutely gorgeous old plantation house.

During the Civil War, Union Soldiers rammed their way through a wall into the house. They dragged the owner outside, beat him and then hanged him from a tree. The slaves cut him down and tried to save him. He clung to life for three days then he died.

My friend opened his home up as a Bed & Breakfast for a while. Many people were upset to see a man in their room…..they all describe a gentleman wearing clothing not of our time. They also see a woman in a light colored dress and hear children playing somewhere outside.

Many folks who have worked for him or visited him have left abruptly after either a sighting or the unexplained noises. One of his housekeepers will not venture upstairs…….He himself is not afraid at all of whatever is in the house. He has on many occasions been kept awake by doors slamming , bangs on walls and ceilings. Unseen people run up and down the wooden stairs going up to his office from his sitting room. Many times, losing patience, he’s gotten up and slammed a door himself, screaming out to the unseen but noisy roommates, “I’ve got to get some sleep so shut the F*&K up, I have to pay the mortgage on this place!” Nine times out of 10 that’ll do it…having gotten the attention they wanted, they let him have his sleep.

I myself have only spent one night in the house. It was during a convention in Natchez for medical folks…I went with my husband and we stayed with my friend. The next morning while my friend went off to work and my husband was at the convention,I stayed in bed loving the lazy morning and the crisp sheets. Footsteps trotting up and down the steps woke me. The more I tried to roll over and ignore them, the more uncomfortable I became. Finally, fearing they didn’t know I was in there, I felt I needed to get up and let the housekeepers do whatever they needed to do. I got up and went to the bathroom. I laughed because the lightbulbs were doing the “spooky” house crackling, diming, and brightening thing. I figured it was the wiring of this old house, but it still gave me the willies. After I dressed, I went downstairs and found out I was alone. No housekeepers…..no visitors of any kind. I thought they had certainly disappeared early.

Later that night, I happened to mention to my friend about the housekeepers waking me up with the running up and down the wooden stairs…….they were off that day..no one had been in the house since he had left for work that morning….but me…..
