Artist's Description

Red sky at night, sailors delight and as for beach goers, well I guess that means bucket loads of sunscreen and a hat in the morn!!! But for now, there is tranquility and a cool evening as the sun disappears below the distant horizon. Phillip Island is a short drive from Melbourne, about an hour or so. It is home to the once very large fairy penguin colony. Fairy Penguins feed out at sea each day and return to their burrows at dusk. You can watch them march back up the beach directly to their burrows with bus loads of people from the massive band stands each evening, but my brothers and I were lucky to have seen them on several occasions as children from our hiding spots on the beach. Kangaroo Island in South Australia have a much smaller colony that still offers the up close and personal experience. I highly recommend it if you love wildlife. This beach is one of the swimming beaches on the island.
