Artist's Description

I took a picture of this flower at my homestay farm in Waikino New Zealand. The local Maori people called me Putiputi (“flower” in Maori Language) for my love of these simple daisy-like flowers.

I used an under-painting technique on this piece in which after I completed the initial outline drawing, I painted a monochrome version of the final painting intended to give volume and substance to the form in order to accurately depict light and chromatic subtleties. I then glazed over the underpainting with color paints to make the form more vibrant.
