Needs Run Deep

Your hands cramp up because they aren’t getting their daily dose of activity.
A pencil on the table reminds you of that story you thought up the other day.
And the pad of paper lying next to it is almost calling your name.

You think about it, going over there and writing.
You think of a perfectly good begining to the story you just remembered.
But you can’t bring yourself to get up, to walk to that table instead of the one you’re at.

So you sit there and pretend that the ache in your hands is because they’re falling asleep.
You ignore that stupid yellow pencil and it’s taunting reminders.
And that demonic pad of paper, ignore it when it speaks.

And then, like those idiotic V8 comertials, something hits you.
It’s not a chore, you’re not going to be punished for not doing it.
But that’s not compleatly true.

This isn’t something that you do because you want to.
No, it’s never been that way.
This is a need.

A need that runs so deep in you that you can’t focus with out this daily function.
A need that causes you physical pain if it is not met.
Like a medication for both body and soul.

Writing is a habit, but it goes deeper than that.
Writing is your passion, but also much more.
Writing is a need, writing is how your soul breathes.
