Artist's Description

The story behind this picture is a good one. In 2008/09 I did an 8 month backpacking trip around the world with my fiance and of course, being a photographer, I had nearly filled a 16GB card with photos over the trip. Along the way, I uploaded just a few of the very best to my blog for my friends and family to see, unknowing that they would be the only photos I would get to keep from that trip. At nearly the end of our travels, disaster struck and my memory card got a virus on it in an internet cafe; I lost everything. After such a long journey, after so many once-in-a-lifetime experiences, losing those photos was like losing my life. I have never really gotten over the incident.

Nearly five years later, I was digging through some old memory cards and found some long lost, completely forgotten photos from our trip! The photos were almost entirely from Georgia, a small country in the Caucuses near Turkey. Absolute rapture. That’s the only way to describe how I felt.

This is one of those photos—taken from a high hill over looking the mountain village of Kazbegi near the Russian boarder. Taken in Georgia, 2008.
