Artist's Description

A man meditates at the Golden Temple, Amritsar, The Sikh Gurdwara. This sublime space was the scene of terrible violence when under siege by the Indian Government forces in the first half of the 1980s. There was a group of secessionists holding up inside when the government forces attacked it. Much bloodshed ensued and the matter only seemed somewhat alleviated when Indira Gandhi died at the hands of her Sikh bodyguards. This is a holy space, a place that all Sikhs try to visit at least once in their lives. It is understandable that their fury was great at the violation of their Gurdwara.
