I exist in the dark – this void, empty eternity. Always alone. Blind.
Existence surrounds me, I sense it in the nothing.
But I have imagined so much of what could be past the nothingness. I’ve imagined light and beauty beyond what one soul can comprehend. I can picture creation and I have waited so long to see it.
I could be a scientist and watch the atoms gather, marvel at the patterns – the precise, mathematical precision – as if existence could have a life of its own beyond what I observe. From tiny specks great mountains could grow and the suns rise above them each morning – birthing colour. I imagine the delicate intricacies of biology meshing with environment, creatures clawing out of sulphurous seas to stand dazed on verdant shores. I can see it would be good.
Good enough to share. And then there could be people, natives of the land that would populate the green space. With the limitations of their experience I cannot expect them to comprehend all that I have done. Myopic sentients, let them learn.
It is inevitable that they will privilege their own knowledge above others. I expect this, what other measure would they have. I cannot do the same, what is the value of trained rodents, I cannot intervene. I hope this will not lead to undoing.
But of course it will. And they will curse me for it. Better not to start perhaps.
I wait in the dark.
I wonder, would any survive?
The dark is empty. I cannot abide it.
My folly, my impatience with existence, I will do it myself.

“Let there be light!”
