The monster in the back yard is not from an unknown planet.
It is not some deranged person on the rampage.
The monster is not a foreign or homeland security risk.
The Monster in the backyard is camouflaged and enjoyed by all of us.
So who or what is this monster in the backyard.
It is our backyard pool.
Yes people, our backyard pool is a monster just sitting and preying on unattended children.
Drowning is the leading cause of death for children under 4 years of age. Statistics report that there are more than 307 pediatric drowning fatalities (153 in backyard pools, 46 in lakes/rivers, 35 in canals, 27 in bathtubs, 13 in other pools, 11 in buckets) yearly.National data indicates that at least 859 children ages 14 and under died as a result of unintentional drowning and an estimated 2,700 children in this age group were treated in hospital emergency rooms for near-drowning.
So you see this is quite a problem.
It is unacceptable and something should be done about this tragedy.
If these deaths were caused by terrorists or crazed people the public would be in an uproar.
In the past there have been Public Service Announcements addressing this problem.
Unfortunately there are far too many not listening.
Children Aren’t Waterproof but they can be Prevented from Senseless Drownings.
How? Very simply. Supervision! Never leave your child unsupervised around water.
