Elastic Walls

The little house on the river foyle,
Had three little windows and a green door,
That was the look from across the road,
For this old house was a beautiful abode,
It had elastic walls that often unfold,
Which kept so many people in out of the cold.

All in all a lot of people lived there,
With two little bedrooms at the top of the stairs,
I often wondered how they all fitted in,
For this little house was stretched to its brim.

I look back over the years gone by,
And it brings in me a gentle sigh,
I loved that old house back then,
I know it was the right place for me to begin.

The black wood stove burning all the time,
It kept the warmth and comfort within,
All who came through the little green door,
Felt the true welcome of the elastic walls.

My sister Carmel was the last to leave,
With her husband Dennis and their four littlies,
After this the old house was tumbled down,
So now the elastic walls will never be found.

The house that stood on the river foyle ,
Is just a memory that will never spoil,
So you see dear friends after all,
You will never know about elastic walls.
