Circle Of Friends

The times i remember when i was a girl,
Is times i was saddened and left in a blur,
For the streets would go silent all doors would be closed,
As the gypsies with their families would travel real slow,
All that was heard was the clip clop of feet,
As the horses and donkeys pulled carts through the streets.

I would look out the window and watch them go by,
I would wave and call to them and see them smile,
They were beautiful people wearing clothes so bright,
And their children were playing as silent as night.

I dreamed of the day i could travel with them,
And i knew I’d be safe with that circle of friends,
So i left my home and started to roam,
With the people i loved but didn’t know.

As time went by and i settled with them,
They were very kind people with means to an end,
I traveled far and wide with these people i got to know,
They were very simple minded and true to there own.

Their horses and donkeys would never kick or bite,
And that went to show me they were raised just right,
We would sit around the fire till late at night,
And sing many songs and talk till daylight,
The happiness that was felt with faces so bright,
I will never understand why people lived in fright.

They treated me with kindness and friendship i never knew,
I trusted them completely with my life as i grew,
Now i have gone far away to a distant land,
But i have the fondest memories which will last till the end,
Those people i knew away back in them days,
Where the very best friends i had ever made,
So now when i look back on them times,
It’s that circle of friends that keep appearing in my mind.
