Steve Belovarich turns the camera itself into the paintbrush. Most light paintings are created using a stationary camera, while the photographer treats a flashlight like a paintbrush, drawing something literal with light during a long exposure. The gestural handheld movements Steve makes with his camera reveals an abstract expressionist aesthetic filled with vibrant color and interesting movement. The photographs are an abstract representation of time and space, blurring any distinction between horizon and foreground. The abstract composition becomes a surreal landscape all it’s own.

Steve Belovarich is a Photographer in Los Angeles. He studied New Media Art techniques at Rensselaer where he graduated with a B.S. Electronic Arts. Belovarich honed his kinetic light painting technique in college using a film camera. He refined this process over the past year using a digital camera. Steve Belovarich obtained a M.F.A. Computer Art from Syracuse University and usually exhibits interactive digital works and video art. He is also a Front End Developer working on commercial websites.
