Artist's Description

One thing many travellers miss is the beauty of the “underworld”. In Australia there are many caves and this photo is “as shot” and is a photo of tree roots in Wait Cave glistening with water droplets. The tree roots are maybe 1mm across in diameter. Wait Cave is in Western Australia. The photo was taken with a 60mm Nikon Macro lens, a tripod and lots of patience. The cave is dusty and the surface the tripod was on was less than stable so each shot would require the lens being cleaned, the tripod being reset and me holding in my breath, repositioning the backlighting without trying to knock over the tripod or stuff up the exposure!

I haven’t taken macro shots in a cave for a while so it reminded me of the degree of difficulty of getting a nice macro shot in a cave! (Well… I think it is nice! hehehe)
