Artist's Description

This took several weeks to make, and is a combination of hand sketching/ink lineart, Dover celtic clipart, Photoshop and Illustrator. Skye (the person it was made for) gave me a calendar of Jen Delyth’s art before she left for Parris (sp?) Island (marine boot camp!), and verbally referenced several things to be included:

- Norse mythology (The Yggrasil tree and several other bits)
- Celtic mythology & symbolism
- Griffins, dragons/the Nidhogg wyrm, etc.
- Continuity, life and death, change and rebirth.
- More things than I can list here, including dozens of personal totems.

She also referenced Jen Delyth’s marvellous art and requested to have something like it, adapted to a back tattoo. I am honored that the recipient of this tattoo actually likes the design, as this is the first celtic tattoo I’ve ever made. There I learned a lot about the over-under, organic, three-dimensional nature of the knots as exploring the symbolism forced me to remember all I’d thought I’d forgotten about continuity, weaving, and other hidden things.

“Original design by Jen Delyth ©1990.” Jen Delyth is the original creator of the Celtic Tree of Life, which the central Yggdrasil emblem takes strong inspiration from. Visit her web page here: http://www.kelticdesigns.com/CelticTreeOfLife/C...
