Freedom's Bane

Once within these borders did the voices of reason echo: against oppression and unjust treatment. The lovely ladies Liberty and Justice were finally recognized as the pillars of a free Republic. Hope flourished; as did a true sense of Nationalism… As the world looked on, we of this great nation were the light of the earth; the most majestic and honorable jewel of her crown.
Yet, over time, our priorities have mutated; our focus has become selfish, and our appetite – insatiable. To read our Constitution, and now look honestly within our own borders is truly disheartening. Lady Liberty has become a crack whore; easily manipulated and disrobed, piece by piece, by the very children of her womb. And as of Justice, she too is at the auction block hourly: available, and easily swayed by the highest bidder. Profit before people has been most destructive to all orders of human history.
All four branches of the people’s government are to blame:
1] The Judicial- by overstepping its authorities, in its attempts on several occasions to legislate from the bench; to protect again, profit over people- undermining the very spirit of the Constitution of these United States.
2] Both the House and Senate- by overstepping their Constitutional charges; by both commission in writing laws for their own personal gains- directly or indirectly: and by omission in that the majority has now chosen not to manifest their own Constitutional charge as a co-equal and separate branch, thusly checking and correcting an over-zealous Executive.
3] The Executive branch- Whether it be itself so overcome with fear to cause such an over-reaction as to restrict the rights of our citizens; simple incompetence- or worse: a desire of unquestioning authority and control through the use of fear mongering and incomplete truths, this administration has shown little, if any Constitutional regard to either Congress or Judicial branches. Through the use of signing statements, it has, in no uncertain terms, told Congress that they are above the law; they will only enforce those laws that they deem fit.
4] The People- whether we be overworked, unenthused, or simply apathetic, we have allowed the democratic experiment to come perilously close to destroying our Republic. By allowing those in government to go unchecked; to manifest their choices over and above our own, we have indeed fallen prey to terrorism- no matter it be in the guise of protection, or it be wrapped in a flag and carrying a cross.
To each of us falls a choice, as was each given free will by the creator. Exercise freedom: defend it- nurture it; but never relinquish it.
