Artist's Description

The student asks the beligerent Master of his technique of combat.
“Over power your enemy! Obliterate them; Terrorize all around you-
Only then, can you feel victorious and safe! You need their fear!’
As the young man, now filled by the beligerent Masters words walks
across the training hall, he choses to challenge the quiet one whom
meditates in the far corner: away from the others.
As he approaches the lone one, he slows his gate… he knows not
why… Studying the solo ones face, his beligerent Masters words
now fall to the floor in front of him…
‘Why do you not spar, and train with the others? Why do you not
draw their blood? Are you afraid?’
This silent one, slowly turns to the student; shaking his head.
‘I wish to challenge you…’ the student says.
“If I am the enemy that you truly fear, friend, then I will make time
to honor your request…’ The silent one returns to his forms.
This baffled the student: “If I am not your enemy, then, who is?’
‘My brother, my enemy is my self: I train and meditate- not to
destroy nor defeat myself; but to respect myself, and all others;
as we are all brothers…’
The student, now shaking, is dumbfounded.
‘Our Master says that I must be able to destroy all men around me;
Do you not want all men to fear you?’ he shouted.
’To have the fear of man is easy, friend; I am told I have that
already… I would rather have respect.”
‘You desire respect? Why would you want their respect, when
you already command their fear?’
‘Fear is a lonely place, brother; look at the Master- see how he
teaches; he empashises conflict over comfort… he has mastered
techniques of death only; fear never knows peace nor comfort-
nor does it know love…’ As the lone one turned away, the student
noticed an errie glow about him.
‘Master…’ the student whispered.
‘Call me friend, brother: just call me friend…’
