Artist's Description

Side three-quarter view of Beauly Priory in Inverness-Shire. One of many ruined priories in the UK, following the dissolution of the monastries and The Reformation.
The priory was founded by the Valliscaulian order some time after 1230 AD and was named Prioratus de Bello Loco, which means Priory of the Beautiful Place. This is probably the source of Beauly or the French Beau Lieu, meaning beautiful place.
