Grain of Sand

The tremble of faith is from fear itself
Fear to hold on what is amidst a grain of sand
Each grain holds truth, but also guilt
And only you and I walk across this path against the tide
Because what brought us together is what faded away-
Away to an irreplaceable valley of emptiness

A shore of the sea was enough to radiate your silent voice to my eyes
But not enough to capture the lie within your dark, dusk night
Your night was my morning and could nevertheless be an epiphany to my world
Brought to life by a mistaken word for words unknown and hidden-
Words, letters and all together they seem, but separated by an echo
Only heard by those in the distance; neither by you nor me

The cliff of an ocean wave or the wave of a hand
Is my only notion to see through from a blinded perspective
And the wave itself rose from the fading sea,
but the wave of your hand dismissed my departure
and into the night I went- to succumb, to survive on the edge of a thread
Again, I wait for the day when you signal my return

Your dull, bright eyes twinkled and faded into the unknown twilight
Thence waiting for the waking and waking for the waiting
Only to observe the dazzling rays of precious stones
And to throw them across the shallow pond
Where they skip a beat to every beat of my heart
Yet unharmed by your grasp because of the warmth your fingertips hold

I know of this warmth because you thrust it upon my cold, lifeless hands
Boy, you were the skip of my heart beat and warmth of my soul
And the night so chill, but the air on fire
The flames of joy were unavoidable
Because the sight of you and I was everything but obvious
And now, lost in the ashes we stand holding on to a forgotten memory

The reality we seek is a desire to breathe what was once felt
But cannot be regained because your breath took mine as mine took yours
The calm, clear midnight sky is on our side
Until we cross paths again and share the unforgettable peace we once shared
And come to realize I was yours and you were mine
Although the shades of breath blanket the sky

Untamed, unruly are the specs of chaos and despair
But you and I unite to tame and rule our lust;
Lust once discovered, yet replaced with fear
Because it’s the disguise of an unwanted hope
Hope to move on and forget all that was forgotten in memory
The links of eternity and destiny, now tangled and ruined, cannot be redefined

For the sake of pain, forget the future and relive the past
So you and I can hurt our unspeakable words through our veins, but in a grain of sand

Grain of Sand
