I took this by the Elizabeth River in Norfolk, VA. It’s a pretty scene by itself, but I think the moving cars give it a little more excitement. I wanted to remove the light pollution in the background (downtown Norfolk,) but am trying not to edit these taken for the book, and it does give some definition to the treeline.

I don’t take a lot of long exposures so I learned a couple things shooting this scene. First I shot it at f/4, but I noticed WAY too much light pollution even with a two second exposure. As to be expected, the reflections are sharper stopped down, but because there is a current in the river, I like the reflections even more when they are this sharp.

The lights flaring was unexpected, and I’m not sure if this is because of the long exposure or just because I’m using a cheap, though multicoated, UV/Haze filter on the lens as protection. Also there is some lens flare around the closest light near the center of the frame. Anyone know for sure?
