A Welcome Return

A spring of the legs, a flap of the wings,
This rare beauty, takes off into the wind.
Soaring high above the cove,
Or riding the currents, that rise from below,
Swooping and diving, just above the sea,
A wonderful display, in all majesty,
Around the Lizard, you will find this bird,
See its distinctive red legs and beak, and where its cry can be heard,
Around the peninsula it’s free to roam,
The Cornish Chough, has come back home.

Artist's Description

The Cornish Chough has been a very rare sight in Cornwall, and is now on the way to recovery, with several nesting pairs around Kynance Cove and the Lizard Peninsula, and I was lucky to have seen one on my recent visit, but unlucky to get a picture of one.
