The Lonely Chimneys

Oh the lonely chimneys

standing tall and straight

They’re the only remnant left

from summer’s fiery fate

Bricks placed by craftsmans hands

now blackened well with soot

The house no longer stands

charcoal crunches underfoot

Overwhelming devastation

as far as the eye can see

Blackened timbers smoking

flames flicker lazily

No sound to break the silence

save the crackle of burning wood

Blue skies now overtaken

by a blackened smoke filled hood

Oh the lonely chimneys

standing guard across the land

When all else is lost

but bricks from craftsmans hands.

The Lonely Chimneys
