Artist's Description

Ring-Necked Pheasant
Common in open woods and on farmland in brush, hedgerows, and cornfields. Much larger than other gallinaceous birds except the turkey. Both sexes have the long pointed tail and short rounded wings. Plumage variable, depending on origin of released stock. Female is told from the smaller Sharp-tailed Grouse by the much longer tail, large bill, and bare legs. Flight is stroung, but only for short distances. Feeds mostly on waste grains, seeds and berries. Teh loud, 2-syllable call is followed by a muffled rapid beating of wings.

This was captured in our front yard on Sunday morning. Was quite surprised by his visit. Kiel, WI USA
